Hyundai moves into the third generation with the Tucson to give us a five-passenger SUV that offers us the style we want and the build we’ve been looking for. Finally, for this generation we have everything we want on the SUV to make this a choice you could easily make over the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and the Ford Escape when you want to enjoy the ride and have the efficiency you need. Of course, as with any other Hyundai model, the Tucson comes in as the model that offers you more equipment for the money than most of the competitors.
Speaking of the equipment, the SE model, which is the base offering, gives you a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity, USB connections, 17-inch alloy wheels and an efficient engine. If you step up to the Eco model you’ll enjoy the addition of rear air conditioning vents, an eight-way power driver’s seat and a more powerful and more efficient engine. The Sport brings you blind spot monitoring, heated front seats, push button starting and a power liftgate that uses a proximity open feature. All this equipment at each trim level is standard to give you the vehicle you want to drive with features you’ve been looking for.
As for the pricing the Tucson SE will start you out at the lowest price at $23,600 and the Eco can be yours for as little as $25,000. The Sport mode does come in a little higher at $26,800 and the Limited will begin at $30,600. Adding AWD to any model will increase the price by $1,400 and the Ultimate package can bring the price of the Limited model to as high as $35,000 but it reaches pretty close to being a luxury model that you can love to drive.
What causes these prices to increase? The optional features that can be added are where this additional money is spent. These optional features include AWD, and on the Limited model you can enjoy leather upholstery, LED headlights and taillights, a chrome grill and door handles, a power passenger seat, dual zone automatic climate control, an auto dimming rearview mirror, an improved infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that uses an eight-inch touch screen, a 450-watt eight-speaker audio system and the Hyundai Blue Link 2.0 smartphone interface. The Ultimate package brings in ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, lane departure warnings, a panoramic sunroof, rear parking sensors and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
Only the base model is saddled with the base engine, which is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that gives you 164 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is attached to a six-speed automatic transmission making good shift speeds and allowing you to enjoy the drive at the lowest price. This powertrain gives you 23 city/30 hwy mpg in FWD mode and 21 city/26 hwy mpg when you add AWD to the mix. This version of the Tucson allows you to have an efficient ride at a good price.
All other models of the Tucson can be had with the upgraded engine which is a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder model. This engine is attached to a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission that makes excellent shift changes for you. This model allows you to enjoy fuel mileage of 25 city/30 hwy mpg for the FWD model, 24 city/28 hwy mpg and 24 city/28 hwy mpg in the AWD models.
When you get into the Tucson and head out for a drive you’ll notice the quiet and comfortable cabin that this SUV offers you. This makes for a great place to have a ride from and gives you an SUV that feels more expensive than it is on the road. This SUV offers you the smooth feel from the seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, and it certainly can be the compact SUV that you make your own if you’re shopping in this segment.
