The Nissan Leaf has become admired as the best-selling EV model on the market. This car comes at a price that makes it affordable for everyone, in a build that makes it easy to park anywhere in the city and with a range from the battery that you can enjoy driving when you live in the city you work in. While the Leaf is a car you buy when you don’t mind being close to home on a daily basis the folks at Nissan have chosen to make some changes to the Leaf to make it a model that offers you something different.
What have they done? Simply, the Nissan Leaf will no longer be offered in its current base form. You will have to start at a higher priced model that comes to you at $32,450 before the tax incentives are applied to it. This gives you a car that now has more range and a more powerful battery as the base model, which is a good sign that Nissan will begin to work toward building a Leaf that may have even more range and power than this model does right now.
As the new base model, the 30kW battery Leaf gives you a standard Quick Charge Package and allows you to be able to drive as much as 107 miles on a single charge. This makes it even easier for you to be able to head out of town on a short ride to the suburbs or to enjoy living up to thirty miles from where you work. This more impressive battery power is perfect for most of the driving we do on a regular basis, but the smaller battery just wasn’t enough to get the job done for those of us who live in a larger radius of where we drive.
Of course if you do still want the less expensive base model with the 24kW battery and the 84 mile range you can still buy one. In order to find one, if your local dealer doesn’t have any left on the lot, you have to look on the Nissan website to locate a dealership that still has the 2016 models in stock and find the one you want to enjoy. This does give you a chance at buying this less expensive model, but other than price, the value is built into the new base model with the 107 mile range for you to have a great ride.
As we see the Leaf increase its base the question, other than where have all the 24kW models gone, is what will be the new upper range model? You know there will be one and it may have a much more capable battery pack and even faster charging for us to admire and enjoy. Until we know we’ll have to be happy purchasing the Leaf that gives us more range and lets you get out of the city and into a larger driving radius from your home.
