When GM announced the closure of five plants and the deletion of most of the sedans and small cars from the market, there was a collective uproar that took place. This action by GM meant the loss of jobs and of some of our favorite vehicles and it could mean the beginning of an end of the automotive success we’ve seen for several years. Instead of this doom and gloom scenario, the fact is that GM needed to “trim the fat” from their process in order to move forward and now they’re doing just that.

Bowling Green Production Increases

One of the most popular vehicles in the world is produced at the Bowling Green, KY plant of GM. This vehicle is the Chevrolet Corvette and with this model moving to the C8 generation, more workers are needed to help make sure this plant can produce the number of Corvette models desired. To make this happen, GM is adding a second shift and more than 400 hourly jobs to support the necessary production of this car. This means the plant will now have a workforce of more than 1,300 workers to build the Corvette models desired.

The Right Decision by GM

The Chevrolet Corvette might be one of the most iconic sports cars on the market, but it’s meant much more than that to the men and women of Bowling Green. This is where the Corvette has been built exclusively for nearly 40 years, making it a staple of the town and one of the main ways the community is able to exist. This is the workforce that will deliver the next generation of the Corvette that will be worthy of the name to continue to offer us the car that tickles our imagination the right way.

Recent Investments Help Bowling Green

GM has invested more than $900 million into Bowling Green since 2011. This includes the investment into a new body shop, an increase in engine capacity, a new paint shop, a new Performance Build Center, and other upgrades to the plant. Since it began production, the Bowling Green Assembly plant has produced more than one million Corvette models making it the right place for the new model to be built. This plant also offers the largest solar array of any automaker in Kentucky to be a plant that strives to be environmentally friendly.

Great News for GM and the Chevrolet Corvette

Adding back to the workforce is a huge step forward for GM as they look to improve and increase the capacity of the pants that continue to produce SUVs and trucks. It’s also nice to see that the GM team can recognize the need to continue to compete in the sports car world and has added more to the Bowling Green plant to make sure the Corvette enters its next generation the right way. The addition of 400 jobs at this plant will be a huge benefit to those who have the privilege of producing one of the most iconic sports cars in the world.
