BMW’s ConnectedRide Smartglasses: The Future of Motorcycle Riding

BMW makes an impressive advancement for motorcycles with a new set of ConnectedRide Smartglasses. These glasses could be exactly what you need.

Have you ever taken a long road trip on a motorcycle? If so, you understand the challenges of following directions and seeing your gauges while attempting to keep your eyes on the road.

Although riding a motorcycle can be a lot of fun, you have to be even more aware of your surroundings than in a car. Motorcycles lack the safety systems or protections offered in a car, truck, or SUV, but they add a bit more freedom and adventure to your time on the road.

What has BMW created?

BMW isn’t only a luxury car name; they also offer several motorcycles with stylish features and luxurious items to be as advanced as possible. If you have a BMW motorcycle, a pair of glasses that offer the readings you need could be extremely useful. Most of us think of projections on helmet face shields and glasses as advanced technology. Mostly we see these things only shown in movies, but BMW has figured out how to give motorcycle riders some of the same advantages as those in cars and SUVs.

The new BMW ConnectedRide Smartglasses are meant to pair with your BMW motorcycle and can provide the data necessary for a great drive. Many riders will likely use these glasses for cross country road trips. These glasses offer the same advanced technology as a head-up display in a car.

A HUD shows projected data on the screen in front of the driver, allowing them to keep their eyes on the road while seeing navigation information or other data that makes their drive safer and easier. These new glasses offer similar features, making them useful on a road trip.

What will you see?

These new BMW glasses offer the desired information in your field of vision. This information comes to you on a small projector that’s built into the right-eye frame.

This projector displays the speed, posted speed limit, gear, and navigation directions in your field of vision. This means you’ll keep your eyes down the road and won’t need to look down at the screens or gauges of your motorcycle to have the desired readings during your ride. The projection is positioned on the horizon or road ahead of you, making it easy to see everything you need during your time on the road.

Can these BMW glasses be adjusted?

You can change the color of the BMW ConnectedRide Smartglasses to suit your desires, but there are other adjustments that can be made. You’ll find two lens options depending on your needs. If you use a helmet with a sun visor, the 85% transparency lenses are right for you, but if you don’t, a set of tinted lenses can work great for your riding enjoyment. BMW says these glasses can also be adjusted by an optician to allow you to use them like prescription glasses while riding on the road.

The only drawbacks to these new BMW glasses are the thick rims, which house the projector and electronics used for the data you’ll see, and the price. These glasses have a battery that will last for up to 10 hours on a full charge, and they can be charged using a USB cable. The price is a little steep at nearly $757 for a pair. Still, it’s hard to argue against these glasses and what they can mean for your enjoyment out on the road.

Can these glasses be used with other vehicles?

BMW makes traditional cars and SUVs, but it also offers the public motorcycles and scooters. These new BMW ConnectedRide Smartglasses aren’t meant to be used with vehicles from other brands. Currently, they only connect and function with a BMW motorcycle or scooter. This means you would need to have a BMW product to use the glasses and enjoy the various functions.

For other motorcycle riders, it might not be too long before a similar set of projection glasses is available as universal models or for other specific brands. Today’s drivers rely heavily on technology and information to get where they need to go, which makes the navigation and speed information on these BMW glasses extremely important.

When you buy your next BMW motorcycle, will you add a set of these glasses to the order? These new Smartglasses can give you the information necessary to ride wherever you want to go when it’s time for your next road trip on your BMW motorcycle.
