We don’t even have the Chevrolet Bolt on the market yet and we already see that this car will offer more new items than you might ever expect. The Bolt will be the first affordable EV to market with at least a 200 mile range on a single charge, but there’s a way to not only create a longer range for this car but to also be able to use fewer pedals during driving. We already see that most cars only use two pedals because we have fewer manual transmissions than ever, but now Chevrolet has come up with a way to use only one pedal.

The Bolt EV will be able to offer one pedal driving in some of the various modes the car offers. This car is built to combine the most regenerative braking possible to put the energy back into the battery pack for extended life of the battery and give the vehicle even more range than expected. While you might expect this regenerative braking to be done when the brake pedal is being depressed, the reality is this car is able to make the most use of this braking in some of the additional modes on the car.

There are actual four selectable modes that allow for stronger levels of the regen braking for the Bolt. In the Drive model you can ease off the accelerator and use the Regen on Demand button on the back of the steering wheel which will provide some of the regen braking. Another option is to operate the car in Low and do the same which will increase the amount of regen braking that’s created and used to add more range to the Bolt, giving you more range of driving on a single charge.

While driving the car in your normal mode will give you some regenerative braking it’s the lowest level of the braking system. the other three options, two of which were described, are going to give you the best regenerative braking you can have on the road. This will help you enjoy as much as an additional five percent of range in the Bolt, making it an even more efficient EV that will be on the market as a 2017 model in the upcoming months. This system of driving gives you the ability to see just how much more you can get out of your Bolt with the regen systems.

The thrill of being able to use only one pedal when you drive and creating the most efficient and effective means of driving means you have control of your range more than ever in the Bolt. Most EV owners try to extend their range as much as they can with systems like this, but many have never experienced anything like the Chevrolet Bolt and the one pedal driving it will offer. As the first long range EV to market at the affordable price point, the Bolt will capture our attention and imagination before others make their way to the sales floor.
