The new Porsche Panamera has gained a great deal of attention over the last few months and now that Porsche has finalized the vehicle for 2017 we can discuss several of the new features that you need to know about. The Panamera has been the four door sedan from Porsche, which gives you the ability to have more room to show off some of the admirable features and capabilities that Porsche has included. Here are some things you should know about this new generation of the Panamera.
Size – The new Panamera is longer, wider and taller than the previous model. The length has been increased by 1.3 inches, the width is 0.2 inches greater and the height is 0.2 inches taller. With these miniscule changes you might not even notice the difference over the previous model, but this added size does give the car a much more alluring visual appearance.
Fewer Buttons – Most of the market is embracing more touchscreen controls and fewer buttons. This includes the new Panamera which will show you a black look in the dashboard and where most of the controls are normally placed until you turn on the vehicle. Once you turn it on the touch sensitive controls light up and show you where all the features are that you need, making for a dramatic and enjoyable appearance.
Where are the Gauges – All the gauges are gone except the tachometer which is part of Porsche history and is included to let you enjoy a look that dates back to the classic 356. The rest of the instrumentation offers you two seven-inch digital displays on either side of the tach to give you a modern control system.
Materials – Much of the Panamera is made from aluminum. this includes a great deal of the chassis and all of the bodywork. There is still a great deal of high strength steel in the areas that need it such as the door jambs. What this does mean is Porsche has found a way to fuse these two metals together in order to create permanent bonds to offer a fusion in this amazing vehicle.
It’s not Lighter – Even though this car uses more aluminum than before it isn’t any lighter than the previous model. In fact the weights are the same as the last generation which leads us to think the weight was simply redistributed in a more intelligent way rather than working to cut weight like so many other automakers have done with their vehicles.
The new V8 – This new 2017 Porsche Panamera will be powered by a brand new 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine that brings you 550 horsepower and 567 lb.-ft. of torque. This is an increase of 30 horsepower of the previous model and a torque improvement of 51 lb.-ft. With this new engine the car will be able to reach sixty mph in only 3.2 seconds.
An Amazing V6 – If the V8 engine is too much for what you want to drive there will be a V6 offered as well. This car is powered by a 2.9-liter engine and gives you 440 horsepower and 405 lb.-ft. of torque. This version will be more fuel efficient and can still make the run to sixty mph in only four seconds while giving you a top speed of 180 mph; not bad for a great V6.
Where it’s Built – The Panamera is being produced in the same plant as the Cayenne and the Macan. This factory is in Leipzig, Germany and all three models use the exact same assembly line of the final build. The Porsche team has been trained to build these three vehicles at the same time which allows them to be more efficient than most factories in the automotive industry.
