The 2024 Chevrolet Trax is bigger than the Chevrolet Blazer, but it’s also cheaper. All trim levels are under $25,000. Both Chevy offerings are subcompact SUVs and they’re nearly identical.
The small SUV class is ultra-competitive due to the fact that many drivers want a small and affordable vehicle with all the versatility of an SUV.
Powertrain Options and Performance
The Chevrolet Blazer comes in four different trim levels–LS, LT, Activ, and RS. The base engine is a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder that manages 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a CVT and FWD. If you opt for an AWD Blazer, you’ll get the 1.3-liter engine that makes 155 horsepower and is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax comes in five trim levels–LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ. All Trax trims come with a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder that makes 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, just like the base Blazer engine. AWD is not available on the Trax, which might be a big sticking point for some drivers when comparing these models.
Fuel Economy
Since the 2024 Chevrolet Trax only has one powertrain option, all trims can achieve up to 30 MPG combined, plus 28 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway with a 13.2-gallon fuel tank. This is fairly average for a subcompact SUV.
The Chevy Blazer offers a larger 1.3-liter engine and it gets 29 city MPG and 33 highway MPG with the same size of fuel tank. If you have the AWD option, you’ll get slightly less fuel economy with 26 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. The smaller engine on the Trailblazer gets 29 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.
Cargo and Passenger Space
Considering that it’s a subcompact SUV, the cargo space in the 2024 Chevrolet Trax is fairly impressive at 25.6 cubic feet. This is significantly bigger than previous models and bigger than most other cargo spaces in the class. The Trax has room for five passengers with nearly 40 inches of headroom in the front and 38 inches of headroom in the back. Front passengers will get nearly 42 inches of legroom and the rear passengers get nearly 39 inches.
The Blazer offers a fold-flat front passenger seat to accommodate long objects up to 8.5 feet. It also has over 54 cubic feet of cargo room in total. The Blazer has a two-tier storage system for even more versatility, which is not available on the Trax.
Pricing
As mentioned in the beginning, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax is extremely affordable with an MSRP of $21,495 for the base model. All other models check in at less than $25,000. The new Chevy Blazer starts at a slightly higher price point of $23,100. Both models are covered by Chevrolet’s three-year or 36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
The 2024 Chevrolet Trax and the 2024 Chevy Blazer are different enough to appeal to different buyers. If you want affordable and efficient, the Trax is probably an ideal choice. If you absolutely must have AWD, then the Blazer is the better choice.
