It’s really interesting how some racing teams go about finding their cars. For the most part many of us have always thought that teams built their race cars themselves. What is surprising is the fact that some racing teams take full advantage of the dynamic and amazing power they can find from cars that are build and produced by some of the names we know for our everyday driving vehicles. Check out just about any automaker and they have a racing division as part of their corporate structure and this is not just for the creation of racing teams that are for their own drivers to enjoy.
One such company that builds high powered and often sought after race cars is BMW. BMW has actually been building a variety of great race cars for a long time to offer a level of performance that many racing teams have loved for many years. The most recent has been their offering of GT3 race cars that come out of the BMW Motorsports Racing collection for teams across Europe and around the world to take to the track and have an opportunity to enjoy the performance these cars can offer easily.
The advantage of a race car that is built by an automaker is the vast amount of experience and engineering that goes into one of these cars. With a car that a team builds itself the experience has to come from within the team and offer what is needed to make the car the right build. This can mean a lack of experience or expertise in a specific area that will end up showing up as a detriment on the track. The other challenge is the need for a second car in case the first one is unable to go, which means the team has to build another to match the first.
At the Frankfurt Auto Show BMW unveiled the new BMW M6 GT3 which is the replacement for the current BMW Z4 GT3. This new race car will use a series produced engine that offers M Twin Power Turbo technology with a higher horsepower output and more torque than the current model. So far BMW has not released the specs for us to compare them with other racing machines, but the weight of this new car is only 2,866 pounds to make it one of the lightest cars on the track. With a longer wheelbase that will give the car better handling on the track many race teams can find themselves overtaking others and getting the lead around the corners of a track.
The engine for this car will be attached to a six-speed transmission that is racing tuned to give the driver the best feedback from the transmission possible. At a cost of $428,000 this car certainly will make its way to the tracks around the world for the 2016 racing season. Will you buy one for your racing team or are you going to see this new BMW blow past you on your favorite track, making you wish you had acted much sooner?
