Drag Racing the Dodge Challenger Redeye

Drag Racing the Dodge Challenger Redeye

For the most part, when you drag race a car it’s pretty simple. Many of the sports cars offered today are built to give you the muscle you need and allow you to race by simply lining up and hitting the gas pedal. The new 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody doesn’t make things quite so easy. Much of the difficulty and challenge comes from the fact that this car brings you a lot of power and when you drive it on the roads, it’sin the low-power model that only allows you to have 500 horsepower at your disposal.

The Power of the New Redeye

The Hellcat lineup of the Dodge Challenger SRT has been powered by the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine since it was created. There have been a variety of power numbers offered and for the Redeye model, the power arrives at 797 horsepower and707 lb.-ft. of torque. This allows this amazing sports car to reach the end of a quarter mile in 10.8 seconds at 131 horsepower to offer you one of the fastest drag cars on the market for your enjoyment when you head to the track.

Creating the Speed Isn’t Easy

While the race to the end of the drag race is part of the statistics of this car, you need to perform some checks and get this car ready to race. One of the first items on the list is the tire pressure which needs to be lowered and then warmed up. The car also needs to be set in Track mode to make it ready for the run. This mode diverts the air conditioning system to the Power Chiller to lower the temperature of the supercharger’s intercooler. This mode also deactivates the stability control.

Get Ready to Race

At most tracks, you’re going to find a burnout box, which is made to help you warm up the tires with some water that will let you get the traction ready for the track. After this, for those that have taken this car for a drag race before, you might have a custom mode setup to give you the items you need to race down the track. If now, you can practice and play with the controls and perform several drag races during the day. Otherwise, leave the car in track mode and get ready to rip off the line with some serious speed.

Why is the Dodge Challenger Redeye so Complicated

The Redeye model of the Challenger Hellcat has so much power at your disposal that you need to have a lower power number on the roads. The power level of 797 horsepower is more than the tires can handle that is fitted to this car when you purchase it at the dealership. That’s why it has the nanny-mode that only gives you 500 ponies during the week, but you can certainly have a lot of fun when the weekend comes and you’re ready to take this car to the strip to see just how fast you can go.
