When the 2015 Detroit Auto Show opened up it was hard to believe that Chevrolet would come out with an EV concept that would be the next EV model we’d want to drive. This car was able to capture our attention and imagination to the point of being in our discussion over the past twenty months and now the car is finally here for us to have a great car to drive. While the twenty month wait for the Bolt has felt like an eternity it’s really only been a relatively short period of time and the car is ready for us to drive.
When this car was first on the stage in Detroit two bold statements were made regarding the car; it would have a price around $30,000 and the driving range would be over 200 miles on a single charge. Both were bold statements at the time since the only EV models that could reach this range was the Tesla Model S and none of the EVs were under or even near the $30,000 mark and if they were close to it the range was terrible, which was a surefire turnoff for any consumer.
GM has been able to make good on both statements as the Bolt will be sold with a starting price of $37,500 which is right at $30,000 after the $7,500 federal tax credit and the range has been officially certified by the EPA to reach a full 238 miles on a single charge. With these two claims validated it’s easy to think that heading out to purchase a new Bolt will be what many consumers want to do in the next few months, which puts this EV that we’ve waited for over the past twenty months, at the head of the class for EVs.
On the inside of this car you will have expected technology right at your fingertips. The 8.0-inch digital instrument screen makes it easy to see what’s happening with the car and what’s left with regards to range as well as how your driving is affecting this range. In the center of the dashboard you’ll see a gorgeous infotainment screen that offers you the usefulness and connectivity you want in a car that is part of the 2017 model class. The Bolt gives you a great view around you with large windows and small/thin pillars at the front, making it much easier for you to know what’s happening around the car.
The Chevrolet Bolt is everything you want in an EV. Its affordable, it offers a great range and it allows you to enjoy the tech that advanced cars should come with. This car is the first to the market as an EV that everyone can purchase and make part of their driving choices. With this car now on the market the sales of EV models could increase significantly over the next several months and on into the next decade.
