Honda Launches in China

Honda Launches in China

Honda is ready to show off what they can do and how they can be part of the Chinese market and develop the vehicles that will be admired.

It’s not really a surprise to see nearly every automotive brand show up in China and be part of this market. When it comes to the numbers, China is the largest automotive market in the world and has more vehicles on the road than anywhere else. Because of the vast number of vehicles, China has a problem that’s worse there than most other areas of the world.

A New Honda Brand in China

The pollution from vehicles has grown to a level in China that has caused the government to regulate the automotive industry more heavily than ever before. Because of this, nearly every new brand or new model sold in China has to be an EV or hybrid model.

Honda is prepared for this and will launch a new brand called Everus and show up with an EV that is a concept model based on the HR-V crossover that we see in the US. This can be the right vehicle for many uses in this market and help Honda gain their own foothold in this market.

What is the Everus Brand Going to be from Honda?

The Everus brand isn’t just a part of Honda. this is a result of a joint venture between Honda and a local manufacturing partner in China called GAC. The launch of their vehicles will take place over the next couple of years but the concept model that made its debut in China recently is certainly an indication of what’s yet to come. This HR-V concept is fully electric but we don’t have any of the powertrain details to share regarding the vehicle just yet.

The Plan for Everus

Right now, the plan for Everus is to introduce twenty fully electrified vehicles by 2020 to make it easy to comply with the new Chinese regulations and sell as many models as possible over the next several years.

These regulations call for a percentage of every brand to be either an EV or hybrid model with that percentage growing each year as the Chinese automotive market works toward a goal of having zero-emissions vehicles as the only type of models sold in the country which can help reduce the pollution a great deal over the next several years.

Electric Models Between Honda and Everus

The Everus brand won’t make its way to North America, but that doesn’t’ mean the EV developments that create the different models offered by this brand won’t eventually show up in some form of a Honda model that we want to enjoy driving.

Right now we have the Honda Clarity EV, Clarity Fuel Cell, and Clarity Plug-In models sold in this market and we hope to have the Urban EV sold in the future as well. Using the developments and technology offered with this Chinese brand will allow Honda to bring about more of the vehicles that we’re sure to desire for the future of driving.
