How do You Increase the Performance in a Focus RS?

11.09.16 - 2017 Ford Focus RS

The Ford Focus RS is a hatchback that you want to drive. This car is the hot hatch that set the record around Nurburgring before they frowned upon setting these records and it comes with a ton of power and performance pieces to give you a car that can easily excite you on the road and on the track. The challenge with this car is we are always looking for ways to improve and increase the overall power and performance, but many times owners have to hold back and not add anything right away.

Why do owners have to wait to add any performance items to this hot hatch? Mostly because they don’t want to void their warranty, which can easily happen. When you add anything to a vehicle that changes its performance of alters it from the factory settings you no longer have a vehicle that’s covered under the factory warranty. Unless you’ve driven your Focus RS over the number of miles it would take to void the warranty already, you won’t want to add anything to the vehicle that would give you a different performance look or feel for fear of this taking place.

Why would you want to increase the performance the Focus RS? This seems to be a silly question, but with any car like this that you buy, you want it to continually give you more. You want more power, more torque, more grip, more angle in the turns, and a way to be able to reach higher speeds on the track. When you consider this hot hatch is one that comes with AWD, 350 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque you see and know that you have a great place to start the improvements for the Focus RS.

If only there was a way to have some performance upgrades while enjoying the benefit of a continued warranty program from Ford. Actually, this may be the case in the near future. Recently Ford Performance announced tuning packages that can be put on the EcoBoost Mustang and V8 models of the Mustang to improve the power output of these two models. With this power increase from Ford Performance owners can add the tuning packages to their vehicle and have the benefit of a warranty that’s still intact. This gives owner exactly what they want for the Mustang.

While we don’t know exactly what the performance upgrades will be for the Focus RS, the word is out that Ford Performance will offer some form of tuning upgrades for this car to allow for better power and torque to be enjoyed. This could mean we do get to see the Focus RS reach 400 horsepower, just with the addition of a warranty approved tuning kit that adds that extra power to the car. Hopefully this new tuning kit will be ready to be installed on the Focus RS in the upcoming months so that owners can begin to add them and show off even more power and better numbers on the track.
