If you’ve lamented the lack of wagons in the United States, Mercedes-Benz is about to change things with the new E-Class wagon.
This new version of the midsize Mercedes-Benz sedan in wagon form will make its way to the United States. This new long-roof version of the E-Class brings a spacious package to our roads, giving us something more than what we’ve had in the past. The newest E-Class is wider than the outgoing model, and it rides on a longer wheelbase, offering more rear legroom and cargo capacity than the outgoing version. With this new wagon, you’ll see a more aggressive, raked rear-end design that delivers the look and style desired.
Should a luxury wagon offer excellent driving performance?
The new E-Class wagon brings a more stylish front design to the mix, but this front isn’t all about looks. You’ll find a new textured grille that allows better airflow and reduces the drag coefficient to 0.26. This means you can enjoy a new Mercedes-Benz wagon with impressive performance elements. Hopefully, these changes and attention to aerodynamics mean we will see an AMG version of this amazing car when it arrives in America. We could also see the All-Terrain version, but the AMG model could be exactly what we need.
Impressive, advanced features from Mercedes-Benz
The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon brings some design elements from the sedan model to the longer and more cavernous build. This means you’ll see a set of electrically operated flush door handles and the three-point star featured in the new rear taillights. Looking in the cabin, the front screen, called a Superscreen, stretches across the dashboard from one side to the other. You’ll have all of the digital items you want, including a selfie camera, Zoom meeting functionality, and enough tech to turn the E-Class into your home on wheels.
European powertrains we aren’t likely to see in the US version
The new E-Class wagon might be heading to our shores, but don’t expect to find some of the powertrains included in the European version. In Europe, a mild-hybrid diesel engine is offered, which we shouldn’t see in the United States. This model also brings a mild-hybrid gas powertrain and PHEV model. These latter two powertrains should be offered in the US version. The PHEV delivers 70 miles of electric driving, but that’s rated on the WLTP cycle, which means it will be less when the EPA testing is conducted.
What else should the E-Class offer?
To understand more about the wagon form of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, we should look at what the new 2024 model offers. Although new electric models are heading our way, MB upgraded the current E-Class sedan with a hybrid powertrain lineup and futuristic interior that makes it a wonderful place to enjoy your drive. This sedan retains its traditional three-box build, which includes a set-back cabin and long hood, giving this car the side and build desired. The wheelbase is longer than the outgoing model, translating to more room inside the cabin.
Once you take your gaze off the Superscreen, you’ll find a cabin covered in rich-looking leather and metal trimmings. Ambient lighting wraps around the dashboard, offering an interesting look during your ride. If you add the pulsing feature, your lighting will pulsate to the beat of the music playing on the Burmester surround sound system. This light strip also offers visual alerts for the driver assistance system to warn you of trouble during your drive.
Front passengers can be completely entertained
The third screen section in the Superscreen, which is situated in front of the passengers, allows for streaming services and brings apps to life on the screen. Your passenger can stream videos, play Angry Birds, take TikTok videos, or attend Zoom meetings. There’s also a sensor to watch the driver’s eyes. If the driver begins glancing at the passenger’s screen while driving, the screen shuts down and no longer allows the passengers to stream games or videos.
How much power does the E-Class sedan offer?
The hybrid system included in the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a 48-volt electrical system which produces 23 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. This system reduces turbo lag in the E350, which has a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 225 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque to the wheels.
The E450 utilizes a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine that produces 375 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque for the drive. All new E-Class models are AWD, and both powertrains mate to a 9-speed automatic transmission.
How much of what the sedan offers will translate to the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon?
