Did Honda and Acura get their wires crossed? Will there be an Acura Integra Type R? This would be an entirely new ballgame for the brand.
Typically, Honda sticks with the Type R name for the Civic and Acura has the Type S for several models, including the Integra. A recent unveiling show there could be an Integra that receives some new treatments, which might include making it a Type R instead of a Type S. This would seriously shake up the brand and its lineup with something different from what we’ve seen in the past.
A special HRC at SEMA
What has Honda done? They brought a heavily modified Integra to SEMA and made us question everything. This new Integra is a special vehicle from the HRC team, giving us a look at a new and possibly improved Integra that just might make a huge difference in the future of driving. The HRC stands for Honda Racing Corporation. This is where nearly all of the Honda racing teams come from in order to compete on Grand Prix tracks and in Formula One. In the United States, we had Honda Performance Development (HPD), but the two parts of Honda have come together under the HRC umbrella to give us a special car that could be one of the most interesting vehicles from the brand in a long time.
What makes the modified Integra special?
A wider body
The current Integra Type S is more aggressive than the regular version, but its not much wider to give us the desired stance. This new HRC model that could be the Acura Integra Type R, is much wider, providing an excellent stance for extra agility and track-day performance. This impressive new model could be perfect for some fun on the road when you want to push it hard through the curves, but it will truly show off when you head to the track.
The front is much more aggressive
The top part of the front end has the signature Acura elements with Integra stamped into the body panel under the headlights and a set of jewel-eye headlights that are easy to admire and enjoy. Below this, the fun begins. Instead of leaving a blank space, there are actual air ducts at the corners, an impressive front chin spoiler, and a lip along the side of this spoiler to help move air where you want while driving.
That hood tho
When you see the hood of this new Acura, you’ll want to get behind the wheel. The hood has two carbon fiber heat extractors built into it and the right shape to move air over the car, allowing it to cut through the wind and rocket down the road or track.
Weight loss and more power
Honda didn’t skimp on power for this new special edition Integra. This Acura Integra Type R has lost more than 200 pounds of weight compared to the current Type S. Much of that weight loss is due to the materials changing to carbon fiber. The 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is expected to produce as much as 375 horsepower, which would be incredible in this amazing car.
A massive wing
HRC gave this special car an amazing and large wing to help push the car down on the road or track. This completes the downforce portion of the car, but that’s not all you’ll find at the rear. The exhaust ports are a triple threat with a three port system positioned in the center of the rear lower portion of the car. This gives the Integra a complete look.
The cabin goodies are abundant
Inside the cabin of this new Acura, you’ll find a set of Recaro racing seats, an impressive and thick steering wheel, and a six-speed manual transmission shifter, which come together to make you feel like you’re in an actual racing machine. Instead of a spartan sports car feeling, Acura finished the cabin with beautiful door panels covered in Alcantara and color-matched stitching, making the doors look like they belong on a luxury sports car.
If you watch the video below, you might notice the floor below the car is stamped with Acura Integra Type S from HRC. The Type R hints come from the host of Raiti’s Rides, which gives us something to think about. This incredible special edition Acura Integra that could be a Type R or a special Type S is something impressive. Would you put this car in your garage and have it ready to take to the track when the day comes?
