With a longstanding name in quality and comfort, the Impala has hit the redesign button and come out shiny and new. Offering a beautiful new body style and a full array of technology and comforts for any owner to enjoy, the Impala is ready to take the full-size sedan segment by storm. Competing in a segment that includes the Dodge Charger, Ford Taurus, Chrysler 300 and Toyota Avalon, the Impala needed the entirely new design it received in order to stay ahead of the competition and continue to be ready to really show what makes it a Chevrolet.
The lineup that has for so long offered eye-catching good looks, a comfortable and steady ride, and a generous amount of space has not added a bi-fuel model to the lineup. This bi-fuel model vehicle is able to run efficiently on gasoline or compressed natural gas (CNG). Add to this change the deletion of the eAssist hybrid and the addition of start-stop technology for the base four-cylinder model and it’s easy to see the Impala is a car that really tries to get as much fuel savings for its owner as it possibly can.
The drive is seriously enjoyable in the Impala through the use of MacPherson struts in the front and a four-link rear suspension that offers a refined road feel that soaks up the bumps and bruises of the road and sends them back where they came from. The steering is sharp and decisive offering an easily enjoyed handling that makes even a canyon run, smooth, easy, and fun. The Impala is also a very quiet ride for the occupants of the vehicle. With the advanced noise cancelling technology that is present, the Impala makes it easy for anyone to listen to their favorite songs from the audio system instead of being distracted by road noises.
Three engines are offered for the Impala for three very different purposes. The base 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine offers 196 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft. of torque. This is the engine that is equipped with the start-stop technology. Even though this technology is a great advantage, there are times some drivers would like to shut it down, but it is not equipped to be turned off at all. The transmission pairing is a six-speed automatic helping the car achieve an estimated fuel efficiency of 22 city /31 hwy mpg.
Next up is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that offers 305 horsepower and 264 lb.-ft. of torque. This power plant offers much more performance and giddy up than the base model and when paired with the same six-speed automatic transmission this engine is capable of 19 city/29 hwy mpg for the fuel efficiency results. Because this power plant only gives up a little when it comes to fuel efficiency, this is the power train that should be chosen most often.
Finally, the 3.6-liter V6 bi-fuel engine that brings 260 horsepower and 247 lb.-ft. of torque when powered by gasoline and 230 horsepower and 218 lb.-ft. of torque when powered by CNG. This engine is also mated to the six-speed automatic transmission and it replaces the outgoing eAssist hybrid from last year. Fuel numbers are unfortunately not available for this engine at this time.
Even though the Impala is very much a mainstream vehicle, the interior is one of a premium sedan offering leather seats, an eight-inch touch screen, plenty of space, and great materials throughout the vehicle. All controls are well positioned so anyone who is used to the way Chevrolet sets up a command center will be right at home. The entire car offers a view and feels that the owner was able to get a great bargain by boasting a fantastic interior in such a well-priced car.
The outside of the Impala is all new with a long hood, sculpted front end and a sweeping angle across the hood and roof that continues to run the length of the car. The front grill is smiling and adorned with the Chevrolet bow tie acting as if it’s ready to eat up as much road as it possibly can. The sides are sleek and easy to enjoy and the front is adorned with HID headlights as well as LED daytime running lights. The finishing touch comes in the form of the 18-20 inch wheels that are heavily mag-inspired and beautiful when driving down the road.
The standard equipment offered for the Impala, like many vehicles is trim based and includes a power driver’s seat, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, a 60/40 split rear folding seat, a six-speaker audio system, and a 4.2-inch color display, all offered on the base model. Moving up the trim levels and other features are added such as dual-zone climate control, an eight-inch color infotainment screen, Bluetooth streaming, a leather interior, push-button starting, and heated front seats. All of this helps to keep the Impala one of the most popular cars on the road today.
The optional features for this excellent vehicle include a navigation system, a rearview camera, keyless entry, keyless starting, a heated steering wheel, a power tilt/telescoping steering column, heated and ventilated front seats, and a Bose premium audio system. The Chevrolet MyLink is standard on the LT and LTZ models and an available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot makes the Impala a wireless hotspot to allow all passengers to conned their mobile devices. Safety features include ten airbags and a traction control system as well as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning systems all are standard on all models and trim levels.
The starting price for a base model Impala which offers a lot of great features to enjoy comes in at $27,700 for the LS model. The V6 model can start around $31,000 and move up to as much as $40,000 depending on the features and options that are selected. The new bi-fuel model starts at just over $38,000 for this great technology. All price points are fantastic for the great car that is purchased for such a reasonable price.
