When beginning the search for a new vehicle, do you have a list of amenities that a car has to have in order for you to consider the purchase? Chances are, if you’re taking on the commitment of purchasing a new car, then you’re going to be a little bit selective about your deal breakers. On the contrary, however, you could be one of those dream customers that doesn’t care what the car features as long as it’s running and gas efficient. Where do you fall, and what are the popular requirements for a new vehicle purchase?
Dealing with people in the automotive world on a daily basis, I’ve heard some ridiculous deal breakers that people request of their new vehicles when they begin the search. I’ve heard tales of customers that wouldn’t even look at a car if it didn’t have an external temperature gauge. While this may be an important way to make a decision as to whether or not a coat is necessary when you leave the car; in the days of cell phones, is it really a necessity? There is another story about a customer that loved every facet of a vehicle he was considering purchasing, but refused to buy due to the lack of dual exhaust pipes.
Purchasing a new car, for most people, is a stressful occasion and a lot of times we get locked into the first vehicle we sit in, because it’s such a vast improvement on our last car. Fast forward, to six months down the road when we hate everything about the car because it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles. Is there a happy medium? What are others looking for in their new vehicles?
One of the most popular options for drivers is the addition of seat warmers. Living on the East Coast is chilly sometimes, and leather interior isn’t all that forgiving. In previous years, seat warmers were only an option accompanying leather interior, which usually forced an upgraded trim level. However, these days, car manufacturers are also offering warm seats in cars featuring cloth interior, and people are buying.
A recent addition to the optional features menu on a great deal of cars is cooled seats as well. As previously mentioned, leather is very driver friendly in the winter when it is 26 degrees outside, but it’s less pleasant in the summer when it’s 90. There is always the painful sticking factor if you’re wearing a dress or a pair of shorts, not to mention the searing pain from leather seats that have been baking in the sun all day long. Cooled seats are becoming increasingly popular as they are being offered on more vehicles.
The car-starting options are still a popular item. The first in this list is remote start, which adds a level of convenience for those who don’t want to trek outside in January to start up their cars so it is warm enough for people to travel inside. It’s also a nice feature in the summertime, as it allows drivers to cool the car off before they begin their drive. Another popular feature is the push button start. Not only is it cool to jump in your car and hit a button and drive off, but it can also be better for your vehicle as you’re no longer weighing down your ignition with superfluous keys. Janitor key-rings; you know who you are.
Sunroofs and moonroofs remain an incredibly popular item, but they’ve upgraded quite a bit since their inception. Some vehicles offer gigantic sunroofs that encompass the entire length of the car, and some still offer the traditional option that allows for a little bit of breeze on a gorgeous spring day. Whichever you choose, the sunroof or moonroof is still a deal breaker for some people.
Sound systems are always a hot button issue for new car purchasers. Some require top of the line speakers, with the latest and greatest in synching technology, while others simply require an auxiliary input. While after-market stereo systems are still offered, they are slowly falling by the wayside because more car manufacturers are now utilizing superb sound options when producing their vehicles, allowing drivers to get everything they want from the factory unit.
In most new cars, a Bluetooth connection often goes hand in hand with the stereo system. Considering that cell phones have become an increasingly important part of our society, Bluetooth allows people to safely access their phones while driving. If you need to return a call to your mom, stream Pandora, or access your own music while you’re on the road; Bluetooth makes all of this possible.
Whether it is something as simple as an interior temperature gauge or something as newfangled as heated cup-holders or in-dash coolers; everyone has that little something extra they’re looking for when they buy a new car. What’s yours?
