The hope is that when the next version of the Silverado is offered, which is expected to be for the 2019 model year, it will include a new feature that’s been filed as a patent by the brand. This new feature could give you access to the truck bed that’s eluded you and only been improved upon with the bumper step that was just catching on. This new feature could increase the access and make getting into the bed of the truck to get what you need much easier than ever before so that you can have exactly what you need when you’re ready to get some work done.

The trucks you saw when trucks were first being built were low to the ground. This was the case to allow farmers and those hauling products easy access to the bed without the need of a ladder. These trucks weren’t expected to perform the dual duty of being a vehicle for recreation as much as for the work that needed to be done. In fact, if you think back to some of the smaller midsized truck of the early 1980s and before you’ll notice how much smaller they were than the midsized models of today and how the ones we have today are more akin to the size of full sized truck of that era.

Fast forward to the trucks of today and you see the half ton pickups that have a higher rear end and the heavy duty models that are nearly impossible to get into because they ride even higher. Unless you’re a teenager that’s full of energy and flexibility it’s extremely difficult to step up into the bed of a pickup truck. This can be frustrating for someone who uses a pickup for their job and getting things done.

The change being proposed by Chevrolet could offer you the solution you need. It’s been obvious for some time that trucks need to come with a way to get up in the bed with ease regardless of the fitness level of the person driving the truck. With this in mind Chevrolet has proposed a new tailgate design that would actually offer a full step which is built into the tailgate. This feature would make it possible for you to step up into the step part of the tailgate and then up into the bed without navigating the corner step put in the bumper.

The thought is to make access to the bed easier than ever. In addition to the step that will be built into the tailgate there is expected to be a handle that pops up to give you a place to put your hand and help you get up on the bed easier. This could make it possible for you to get up and down out of the bed of your truck much easier instead of feeling like you need to stay in the bed once you’ve made it up over the tailgate and into the truck.

Hopefully this design or one similar to it will pass and be what we see on the next version of the Silverado.
