As Nissan Reimagines Its Pickup Tuck Offering, Could the Answer Be Electric?

The Japanese automaker has struggled to find its footing in the pickup truck scene in the U.S. market. Currently, Nissan only offers the full-sized Titan pickup and the mid-size Frontier Pickup.

Even still, Nissan has struggled to meet consumer demands the way that Ford and Chevy have been able to with their well-loved F-150 and Silverado 1500 models. Even more so, Nissan’s less than impressive pickup truck sales have sparked rumors that Nissan will likely retire its Titan model in the coming years to combat its losses.

As the automaker plans for the future, the answer might be an electric pickup. According to the chairman of the Nissan dealer advisory board, Tyler Slade, Nissan is toying with the idea of bringing forward a light-duty electric pickup truck for drivers who need pickup performance and the sustainability of electric power.

But what does this EV pickup mean for drivers and what can they expect out of a first-of-its-kind light-duty pickup from Nissan?

Nissan EV Pickup Could Be Built after the Frontier

Seeing as the Frontier has been a much more popular model than the Nissan Titan pickup, it’s likely that the Nissan light-duty EV pickup will be modeled after the Frontier.

As reported by Automotive News, Nissan is currently examining a new model that will likely be built on the current offerings of the Frontier. While Nissan has not made any public commitments or statements touting an EV pickup in the future, analysts say that it would be smart for the automaker to consider an EV pickup as it prepares for the changing automotive landscape ahead.

Nissan Could Satisfy the Need for a Light Duty Pickup

The Ford F-150 Lightning and Vivian R1T are EV pickups that have dominated the market over the past year. While EV pickups are not new, drivers still don’t have the choice of a compact or midsize EV to shop from. A light-duty entry-level EV pickup from Nissan could be a solution to satisfy that gap in the market.

Nissan EV Pickup Concept Design Touts a Modern Aesthetic

While the verdict is yet to be out, a concept design of the electric pickup has been unveiled by Nissan. In true EV fashion, the concept design is futuristic, modern, and touts an aesthetic similar to the F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T model.
The Nissan EV concept features a sleek and seemingly out-of-this-world body style that is as geometric as you would expect from an EV pickup. A wedge-like shaped bed, aggressive lift, and minimalistic design certainly allow the concept EV pickup to stand out against the current competition. With an LED tail and winged roof, this EV offers several funky features that would command a second look.

Bottom Line

While talks of a light-duty EV from Nissan are still just that, talk, Nissan hasn’t ruled anything out yet. Until then, drivers will want to keep a lookout for a one-of-a-kind EV sometime in the near future.
