Smarter Truck Engines are the Future

Chevrolet Silverado

Trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado & GMC Sierra are getting a bit smarter under the hood, thanks to some cutting edge tech.
Cylinder deactivation isn’t a new idea, but we’ve accepted the idea that there’s typically only one way to make this system work for you. Since this technology was first introduced to the market, engines have only been able to go from the full number of cylinders working for the vehicle down to half of them. Thankfully, Tula Technology has been working on a better way to make cylinder deactivation work and we’re going to see the results of their work in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models that have V8 engines under the hood.

All Power isn’t Needed

Even a large SUV only needs a few horsepower to drive down the highway at speeds of up to 65 mph. This means you’re normally wasting a lot of fuel, a lot of energy, and wearing down your engine parts unnecessarily when you drive. With the new system that’s been developed by the Silicon Valley team of Tula Technology, a Dynamic Skip Fire (DSF) program, the efficiency of the GM pickup trucks will be amazing for the future and allow us to make full use of the power under the hood only when we need to.

What does DSF do for You

The DSF technology doesn’t just deactivate half the cylinders; it can deactivate or activate each one as needed. This means you could drive in your 2019 Silverado without a load in the rear and only make use of one cylinder if that’s all the power that’s needed at the time. Of course, if all eight are needed, the system will make use of all of them and give you the incredible power you’re looking for to get the job done and enjoy the drive that you need to make so that you can accomplish what you set out to.

Vibrations Aren’t a Concern Anymore

For years, the reason cylinder deactivation was done with half the cylinders was to balance the vibrations and make sure your driving experience was smooth even when only half the engine was being used. The way Tula Technology has developed the DSF system is to study and have the engine choose the right cylinder combination to balance the vibrations and make the drive as smooth as possible. This means each cylinder could fire at different times or different combinations could be used in order to create that smooth drive that you want to enjoy.

Feel the Difference in a GM Pickup Truck

Tula Technology has been working on the DSF system and other cylinder deactivation systems for the past ten years, but this will be the first time their products are being used on a large scale. Choose one of the new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup truck and let the DSF system go to work for you. This new system makes changes that you’ll hardly notice during the drive, but you’ll certainly notice a difference when you don’t need to fill the gas tank as often as you did in your old truck.
