The rise of a phoenix is one way to truly describe what Spyker is experiencing right now. Firs the came out of bankruptcy with a massive and gorgeous supercar that is going to be one of the most exclusive and rare cars offered on the market and now they have a new announcement for us. When raised from the ashes by Volta Volare, an American electric aircraft startup company, Spyker has come out of the gates with both fists swinging as they take aim at some of the top names in the industry and give us some new and interesting vehicles to choose from.
With the LA Auto Show in the fall of this year, which should be plenty of time to prepare, Spyker intends to debut an all-electric SUV for us to admire, enjoy and critique. This announcement was made at a recent symposium for Volta Volare which was a safe place for them to make such an announcement. This SUV will show up later this year and be one we look forward to all year until we see exactly what Spyker has in mind for us when it comes to and SUV that might be just as exclusive as its supercar.
Spyker is a small boutique Dutch automaker and with the marriage with Volta Volare there will be new ground for the company to build on. The two brands together intend to blend into SpykerAero and sell aircraft under that name but vehicles will still be sold under the Spyker name. We may even look at some of the aircrafts in the future as the expectation is to have extended range electric powertrains on these aircraft. The vehicles offered will be battery powered EVs, one of which will be the SUV we are waiting to see.
This SUV is based on the D12 Peking-to-Paris concept and will offer us an all-electric powertrain to for us to admire. Actually, the standard model will have a massive V12 engine under the hood to match the original concept of the vehicle, but the EV version will offer similar power and performance from an EV platform that allows the brand to have a wide range of choices to work with. This SUV could appear to be a bit of snub-nosed vehicle like the original concept, or Spyker may add style that will be less polarizing and more acceptable to a wider audience.
While Spyker is not aimed at mass production and will only have limited production runs for their vehicles the fact they already are heading into the SUV world is telling. By looking around you can see other brands that have added SUVs over the past few years and the message is simple, “you must have an SUV to offer if you want to survive in this automotive market” which is a message that has fallen on deaf ears for other brands. It seems Spyker receive that message loud and clear and is poised to take its next vehicle into the ring where more SUVS are sold than any other market in the world; the United States.
