The Buick LaCrosse Lives On

The Buick LaCrosse has been put on the chopping block in the US, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see this sedan make its way to a future generation in other markets.
While we love the Buick brand as one of the longest-running premium brands in the North American market, Buick has become one of the most popular brands in China. This brand has become so popular with the most heavily populated country in the world that Buick has built a factory in China and began to build a car that’s imported to the US.

Photos have Surfaced

One reason the Buick LaCrosse could continue to be offered in the Chinese market is the use this car offers. The LaCrosse is long and luxurious and it can be one of the most impressive vehicles that can be driven. The back seat of this car is big enough and comfortable enough to be used for executives that might need to be driven around. With that in mind, a new 2020 version of the LaCrosse has been spotted in photos to give us an idea of what this car may become in the future.

A New Look and What it Offers

Some of the changes that we can see when looking at the photos of the new Chinese-only LaCrosse make it a car that we certainly would like to see in the US. These changes include slimmer lights at both ends, a larger grill with wings that stretch below the headlights, and a large rear badge that offers a strip of chrome that extends the width of the car as well. These new looks make it easy to admire what this sedan could be when it’s offered for the 2020 model year in China.

No Mechanical Changes

The Buick LaCrosse is riding on a new platform that was introduced in 2017, which means we won’t see any significant mechanical changes to this car at all. This means there will be the four-cylinder mild hybrid option to start with and a V6 engine offered above this. There’s also a completely hybrid model of the LaCrosse offered in China, which certainly won’t make its way to any other market. Even if the Buick LaCrosse were to be offered in North America in the future, the hybrid model isn’t likely to be part of the plan.

What’s the Plan for the LaCrosse

With the announcements from GM that several sedans won’t see the 2020 model year, the LaCrosse isn’t likely to last very long in the US, but it will continue to be a strong performer in China. This means we could see some of the sedans that are being cut out of the lineup brought back in the future. It’s possible the sedan market could go the same way as the midsize pickup truck market which was stagnant for a few years. For the time being, we can admire the LaCrosse from afar and enjoy the upgrades being offered for 2020.
