When Jeep announced they were going to build a pickup truck version of the Jeep Wrangler to give us an extremely capable off-road truck that could be a lot of fun on the trails, we expected this new truck to be called the Scrambler. This is a name that came from the early models of the Jeep brand to date back to the same time that we saw the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer offered on the market. Now it seems the Jeep pickup truck will take on a different name and be offered with a different thought process.

What do You Think of When You Hear Scrambler?

If you weren’t around the last time Jeep had a Scrambler on the market, or you don’t remember this truck except in throwback photos, you may have a different thought about this name. The name sounds a lot like a breakfast special that’s offered at Denny’s, which can make you hungry for some eggs and bacon and not for taking on the trails. Another way we’ve seen Scrambler used is at county fairs with the spinning and crazy rides that are offered, which is not what you want to associate with a capable off-road pickup truck.

The New Name of the Jeep Pickup

It’s recently been announced that the new Jeep Pickup will be called the Jeep Gladiator. This sounds like a truck name and one that invokes the feeling of toughness, power, force, and fight. Because this is a truck that you will expect to handle the challenges of the trails with an expertise you only see from Jeep, this new truck needs to carry all these things to the market and be ready to be put to the test. The Gladiator name absolutely makes you feel that this truck is ready to be tested and tested hard.

The Gladiator Name isn’t New

Jeep has used the Gladiator name in the past, but most of us won’t remember the use of it at all. The only time that Jeep offered this name was in 2005 when they showed off a pickup truck concept at that time. Unfortunately, the Jeep Gladiator concept never made it to the market, but it seems that it will now. This new pickup truck is expected to be part of the 2020 model year and give us a fantastic new Jeep to drive.

Will the Name Stick

While we know there will be a Jeep pickup truck offered in the next model year, the name of Gladiator might not be able to stick. The Scrambler name is a classic name of a Jeep truck that was offered in the past and it might be what we expect to see when this truck arrives. Regardless of the name, the new Jeep pickup truck will make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month to give us a look at what it has to offer and how it will be built to give us more of the power and features that we want to enjoy on the roads and trails.
