What Ford vehicles would you love to see make a comeback? If you answered with the Bronco and Ranger you certainly could be on to something and the thought of bringing these two back would be a huge boon for Ford. Although the Bronco has not been produced for close to twenty years it was one of the leading off road vehicles when it was produced and many owners who still have one love to take these awesome brutes outdoors for a great drive in the country or on the trails.
The Ford Ranger is one that was made up until 2012 and is still produced overseas, but isn’t actually exported to the US, which certainly seems a shame. With the increase in the number of players in the midsized truck segment you can certainly see why Ford might want to bring back the Ranger, especially since their chief rival, GM now has two models in the class and Ford doesn’t have any. This just seems backwards for Ford, especially since the truck is still being produced and enjoyed by so many drivers around the world, but not by those of us here in the US.
Included in some of the details that have been proposed to the UAW in a contract they will vote on soon, new investments for the midsized vehicle line and a commitment to move the production for the Ranger to a plant in Michigan along with bringing back the Bronco in the same plant will offer the US market the pair which can really improve the overall lineup from Ford. The plan is to use the plant that currently produces the Focus and C-Max and bring the Ranger to the US by 2018 with the Bronco following in 2020.
What could this mean for the US market? This could mean we finally have another great two-door SUV that could actually rival the Jeep Wrangler like it did back in the heyday of the Bronco and we could see a Ford version of the midsized truck to compete in a segment that is growing quickly, giving Ford the opportunity to challenge the new offerings from GM. With these two only a couple years apart and really only a few years away from now it’s exciting to think we might really get a pair of great vehicles from Ford that will give us the midsized ability on the trails once again.
Does this mean we will see the Blazer come back from GM? It’s hard to say if GM will come back with the Chevrolet Blazer or the GMC Jimmy, and certainly this is actually not a guarantee from Ford as of yet, but it certainly could start to build the lineups to become once again what we really want them to be from Ford, which is a market full of great vehicles in nearly every category from each of the major manufacturers. Not having Ford in the midsized truck arena seems wrong and with this change in the lineup this wrong could quickly be righted and enjoyed by all of us to take full advantage of and enjoy.
