Coming soon to your Acura dealer is the upmarket sibling of the Civic Type R. The 2024 Acura Integra Type S will have more power than its hot hatch rival and will be exclusively built at the Marysville, Ohio factory.
With 320 horsepower sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, the Integra Type S is a definite throwback for a sports sedan.
A Step Up
The Honda Civic Type R is already a throwback with plenty of attitude and style to go with its manual transmission. However, the Acura Integra Type S boasts even more power and luxurious interior features. Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine that makes 320 horsepower. This engine is more or less the same as the engine in the Civic Type R, but it makes 5 more horsepower in the Acura model.
The turbo four-cylinder uses a high-flow exhaust system, which could be the main reason for the additional power in the Integra vs the Civic Type R. Sending that power to the wheels is a six-speed manual transmission. There’s no automatic option here. The decision to go manual-only is the same as the Civic Type R. The six-speed is a close-ratio box and you can add a titanium shift knob from the Acura option catalog.
Upgraded Interior and Exterior
As the upmarket version of Honda’s hot hatch, it’s no surprise that the Acura Integra Type S features a very posh interior with heavily bolstered front seats and plentiful leather and Ultrasuede throughout. The front seats are also heated for even more comfort. The shift boot is covered in Ultrasuede as well. On the infotainment front, you can expect a 9-inch touchscreen with standard Apple and Android compatibility. A 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster gives you information about the car while you’re driving.
A set of 19-inch wheels provide the platform for the Integra Type S, along with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The Integra features a wider body, so you’ll get more track width to the tune of 3.5 inches in the front and 1.9 inches in the rear. Providing the stopping power on the Integra is a pair of two-piece brake rotors in the front paired with four-piston Brembo monoblock calipers and functional brake duct cooling.
Price and Release Date
You can expect to see the 2024 Acura Integra Type S at your Acura dealer around June when it officially goes on sale. The price tag is still to be determined, but it’s likely to be higher than the price tag for the Honda Civic Type R, which is $44,390 for the base model. For those wanting a new Integra Type S car in their garage, the price probably won’t be a huge sticking point. Early reviews are billing it as the Civic Type R for adults.
The Integra Type S will be fully manufactured in the USA with the engine being made exclusively at the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio and the car itself built at the Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio.
