Why is Jeep slow to the EV game? The first Jeep EV could be the new Wagoneer S EV, which isn’t quite ready to be sold, according to Jeep.
Automakers have been botching electric vehicle releases for the past few years and Jeep doesn’t want to experience the same. In order to protect the Wagoneer name, the first electrified Jeep must be perfect before the brand will allow it to enter the market. How long with Stellantis hold this line with this new Jeep? That’s hard to say, but it’s the current thought process by the automaker.
From the top to the bottom
When it comes to off-road vehicles, the first name in the industry is Jeep, but that hasn’t been as much the case over the past few years. The aging lineup has translated to slipping sales, which makes us wonder when Jeep will bring us something new drive. It seems dealer are feeling the same way, with their lots full of models that are much harder to sell than some of the older, much more affordable Jeep SUVs.
The struggling lineup, even after the infusion of the Wagoneer name back into the market, causes Jeep executives to take a step back to ensure the new Wagoneer S EV is perfect before its launched.
Has Jeep gone in the wrong direction?
The Jeep brand is under its third CEO this year, which makes us wonder why the brand doesn’t hold onto its leadership. That aside, the brand has run into serious struggles, and those struggles reflect the same issues we saw with Chrysler and Dodge in the past. If you think back, when Dodge discontinued the Dart and Chrysler the 200, the reason was slow sales and lack of profits from these smaller sedans. The same can be said of the Jeep lineup.
Recently, Jeep discontinued some of its aging models, including the Cherokee and Renegade. The brand also started to rethink some of its complex trim structures, which is a good thing. The trouble for this brand is that the cheap models have been replaced with vehicles costing two or three times what these smaller SUVs cost. Is Jeep repositioning itself to be a luxury brand, or has it simply gone in the wrong direction, leaving loyal but budget-minded drivers behind?
Stellantis might have waited too long
Sometimes, if you wait too long to do something, you miss out. This could be the biggest challenge for Stellantis and the new Jeep Wagoneer S EV. The rush of EV buyers is over, and many shoppers are looking for a lot more value in their electric vehicles. If an automaker can’t deliver on value, many shoppers are simply not buying the EVs, which makes for a tough sell when a new, expensive, full-size electric SUV is heading to the market.
It seems the current Jeep CEO understands the current market conditions and wants to make sure this first Jeep EV is perfectly timed and has absolutely zero issues when it launches. He doesn’t want there to be any reason for a customer to choose any other electric SUV, which is going to be a tough road to travel.
What can you drive in the meantime?
While we wait for Jeep to finally pull the string and let the new electric Wagoneer head to the market, the brand offers four impressive models that wear the Wagoneer name. The regular Wagoneer is a high-performing and impressive SUV that has modern tech and a slew of great features. If you want this SUV but need more cargo space in the rear, the Wagoneer L is ready to give you what you need.
If you’d rather drive the latest addition to the luxury full-size SUV market, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer stands at the ready to give you the driving pleasure you want to enjoy. This amazing new Jeep has the Hurricane engine under the hood and every luxury trimming you could ask for. Once again, if you want more cargo room in the rear, there’s a Grand Wagoneer L version that could be perfect for you.
We await the release of the new Jeep Wagoneer S EV; hopefully, we won’t have to wait much longer.
